About the Unit
This chapter applies aspects of lean manufacturing to everyday life activities. The text on page 102 is a brief summary of aspects of this concept. This is all you need to know about it. If possible, organize a plant visit to a company that practices this mode of manufacturing. Make sure students understand that it isn’t meant to be prescriptive, but just offers a way of time management that they might find helpful. If you have time, you could ask additional questions: “”Wie viele Menschen wohnen hier? Wo findet man solche Häuser? Kennen Sie so ein Haus? Was sind die Vorteile und Nachteile? Wo wohnen Sie am liebsten? Warum? Was ist in den USA anders?” You might want to point out culture specific architectural aspects like Klappläden or Rollläden (what are they good for (noise, light, storms heat, cold etc. What function do they have e.g. in the case of some Naturkatastrophen as listed on page 50)), why do most American houses have only fake ones?
