Ernährungsweisen
Einheit 38
TEACHING TIPS
About the Unit
This Einheit allows us to practice modal verbs while also addressing the fact that not everybody can or wants to eat the same.
Aktivität 117: Allergien
Especially gluten sensitivity or celiac is omnipresent now. Many students may have also come in contact with other allergies. This activity should thus be a welcome opportunity for them to share some knowledge as well as personal stories. This helps build community and the ability to converse about something that is more abstract than the previous units.
Aktivität 118: Ernährungsweisen
1) You can decide to amend the exercise to also allow students to say what they want to eat. Listing what people don't want to eat will be a bit more challenging but also helps with time management. You can also ask students to just fill in everything they know for five minutes and then add to it with a partner or in a small group and only research the items that are unfamiliar to all group members.
2) Let the groups brainstorm before moving to a whole class conversation.
Aktivität 119: Allesesser? Vegan? Vegetarier? Pescetarier?
You choose how much detail you want for each picture. This is a great opportunity for recall but can also be done quickly to leave enough time for the video in 120.
Aktivität 120: Video-Ecke
Before watching the video, ask students whether they know about typical food from Stuttgart and/or from Afghanistan. Ask whether they expect the food to be very different or similar.
After watching and filling in the answers, concentrate on the 3rd part about Maultaschen and Ashak and ask students whether they know any other Teigtaschen (Ravioli, Empanadas may be some likely answers). Students can contemplate similarities and differences of food (e.g. form vs. spices/flavor) from different countries.
