About the Unit

Aktivität 113: Was ist traditionell? Was ist neu?

This activity uses a text from LERNEN to recall characteristics of molecular cuisine. Let students who didn't read the text beforehand work by themselves and read the text then. Let the other students work in pairs or small groups to check the boxes. Explain beforehand that not all the boxes are easily identifiable and there is some overlap. The important part here is that students recognize that molecular cuisine is trying to do something new – adding new tools and ingredients to well-known recipes and methods.

Aktivität 114: Ein Rezept aus der Molekularküche

1) Students read out loud in pairs or small groups and can discuss words or concepts they don't understand among themselves.

2) There are many things students will be able to list here. Encourage them to find as many things as possible, even if they seem obvious (for example that melons are used in traditional cooking as well). This is as much about reading comprehension as it is about transfer skills, therefore: the longer the list, the better.

Aktivität 115: Starter-Set Molekularküche

1) This is a challenging task and students may need some guidance on how to find the answers to these questions. You may choose to split the students into groups so that they have more time to find the answer to just one of the three ingredients.

Aktivität 116: Risiko Molekularküche

If you teach GER 101 and not 111, students did not do the lesson on chemistry. If that is the case, make sure to explain the different states: fest, flüssig and gasförmig, otherwise ask students to recall this information.

Let students work by themselves first and then ask them to share with a partner before sharing with the whole class. This allows students to find as many answers as possible by themselves but also to check on their own answers before presenting them to the whole class. Think-pair-share particularly benefits quiet students who may not share their answers otherwise but is also well-suited for a short but challenging text like this one.
