Students have quite a bit of freedom in this exercise since almost all of the items can be bought in a Supermarkt. However, this exercise is useful for showing that there are specialty stores for specific food items that exist within grocery stores but also separately. Particularly, Bäckereien are frequented often and many people prefer to buy their bread and pastry there instead of in the grocery store. Many Supermärkte have Bäckereien within the same building offering bread in a variety of locations: prepackaged in the bread aisle, fresh from a shelf in the bread aisle, and from the Bäckerei that is beyond the registers in the same building. You can also note that Bäckereien often open on Sundays, some are closed on one day during the week, and Germans often get the Sunday morning bread rolls at Bäckereien.
