Einheit 18

TEACHING TIPS

About the Unit

Aktivität 59: Künstlerkolonie Worpswede

After completing the exercise, project a map of Worpswede on the screen (google maps) and explore the town: street names, sights, tourist attractions etc.

Aktivität 60: Bildbeschreibung

Pre-structure the exercise by having students come up with categories such as: “Was sieht man? Ist es Morgen, Abend…? Welche Jahreszeit? Welche Farben? Stimmung? Stil?” With the example of the Modell. You might in fact write the categories on the whiteboard:

Was?

Wann?

Jahreszeit?

Farben?

Stimmung?

Stil? (you might want to simplify: “Ist es (un-) realistisch, abstrakt” etc.

Aktivität 61: Paula Modersohn-Becker

Use the categories from 60 to describe the picture.

Aktivität 62: Ein Gedicht schreiben

This activity asks students to write a so-called Elfchen, which is a poem that consists of eleven words. It allows students to write creatively without necessitating too many words. They will sound great, no matter how simple each line looks like, which is fun but also quite the accomplishment this early in their German learning career.

Make sure that every word counts as one word (articles, prepositions, everything is an actual word). Don't worry about grammar, they don't know all cases yet and it's ok if it's incorrect. Decide for yourself how much you want to help if they ask you phrases. You could put some basic locations on the board to help out: in der Mitte or im Garten for example.

You can tell them to start with a color in the first line, then maybe describe the item that they see in that color, or where the color is, then use some simple adjectives to describe the feel of the picture or the color and end with one word that wraps it all up.

Here are a few examples what this could look like:
