About the Unit
Aktivität 22: Berufe
1) Students read aloud and fill in the missing feminine or masculine equivalents. Students can work individually or in pairs.
2) Students think of three other professions. You can assist students with vocabulary. Remind them of “Wie sagt man xxx auf Deutsch?” and “Wie schreibt man xxx?“ Or, point them to an online dictionary.
3) Students work in pairs to answer the questions. Encourage them to ask and answer questions aloud. You can give them some useful phrases, e.g. “Nein, ich glaube, das stimmt nicht.” or “Ja, das glaube ich auch!“
Aktivität 23: Was ist Mandy von Beruf?
Students complete the info gap activity using the information on pages A-1 and A-7. Ask students to vary their questions and answers. Students should write answers down as they hear them. They can ask their partners to spell challenging words with “Wie schreibt man xxx?”
Aktivität 24: Ein typischer Arbeitsplatz
Demonstrate with a few objects around the class - you can ask students to use a few of their things or just prepare things from the room or that you bring. Hold up the object and say the word with the definite article. Ask the question: “Was ist das?” Answer with the indefinite article. Do this a few times, so students understand what you are doing. Then, have students complete the activity in pairs. Students may find gendered inanimate objects challenging. Encourage them to learn the definite article with each new word and/or to come up with their own systems for remembering them.
